TRÍ MẠNG
Gold Award of the Photography Category - Arena Multimedia's SHOW IT NOW 2021 Competition
“TRÍ MẠNG” is an album of creative photographic artworks highlighting the negative aspect of the human-technology relationship in the style of conceptualism and abstractism. In Vietnamese, "TRÍ" stands for "rationality" and "MẠNG" stands for "the Internet". These two words combined form a new word which nearly sounds the same as "chí mạng", meaning "fatal".
We sincerely hope that our work can have a strong impact on people's awareness about media habits and ultimately influence their behaviours.
MENTAL DRUGS
Internet addiction has long been a matter of great concerns. Instead of utilizing technologies in good faith, some people spend most of the time devouring “dramas”, scandals, nonsensical arguments,... on the Internet. “Dramas”, therefore, have become the mental drugs that they need to consume everyday for living. Consequently, an Internet culture that drags people away from intellectual pursuits yet seduces them with superficial contents is born.
CYBERCULTURE
Taking advantage of the public space where people are just strangers to each other, many netizens are verbally abusive. During the Covid-19 pandemic, a great number of infected patients become victims of cyberbullying. Netizens start to criticize them harshly without fact-checking any information in advance. Some even go as far as to attack their family members just to satisfy their anger. People who sacrifice themselves in the pandemic like soldiers, police, doctors,... are also targetted.
RECHARGE
Recharge your battery, recharge yourself! Confined within four walls, glueing your eyes to the screen all day, it is time you shut down all devices to have a digital detox. Try doing some positive activities at home such as doing yoga, reading a book,... to keep yourself healthy.
LOCKDOWN
Suffocation is unavoidable during the lockdown. However, it should never be a chain cooping you up in the room. Find your own silver lining. Fire proves gold, adversity proves men. Wield your power to overcome difficulties.
